Tradition and Transition
by Carl Crumley and Dick Bennett
July 11 - August 5, 2012
Opening Reception: Friday, July 13 from 5 - 8:30pm
Our next exhibit at Image City Photography Gallery is Tradition and Transition featuring
the photography of Carl Crumley and Dick Bennett, Gallery Partners.
Carl displays photographs that capture the lives of the growing
population of Amish and Mennonites in New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio,
as they struggle to maintain traditional lifestyles in our increasingly
high tech world, including a series documenting the dating ritual of
young Mennonites. Dick studied the transition of a portion
of the Rochester's Maplewood Neighborhood on Dewey Avenue near Ridge
Road. Over a year-and-a-half, he documented the demolition of the old,
contaminated Crescent Puritan Laundry factory and the construction of an
80 unit supportive housing community that will use a tradition of
community support to help those who are less fortunate.
Guest photographers in the
exhibit are Bruce Elling, in the East Gallery, and Bridget Aleo, Timothy
Cuffe, Helen Ellis, Julie Oldfield, Lou Ryen and Mark Widman. Award
winning photographs from competitions of Camera Rochester include the
work of Ted Barnett, Earl Jackson, Bob Hinkelman, Nancy Stockmaster,
Dave Valvo, and Wu-hsiung Yang
The exhibit will also
include the work of Gallery Partners and Artists-in-Residence: Steve
Levinson, Gil Maker, Don Menges, Dan Neuberger, Jim Patton, Betsy
Phillips, Gary Thompson, Phyllis Thompson, and Sheridan Vincent.
The exhibit enjoys the support of Eastman Commons, a supportive Housing Community, featured in Dick Bennett's exhibit.
