Pastel Society starts up 3/14 10 am

The first meeting for The Pastel Society of Western New York (name to be voted on at the meeting or other suggestions welcome) on Saturday, March 14th at 10am in the studio of the Rochester Art Club at the Hungerford Bldg. The address is 1115 E. Main St. Rochester 14609. The studio is on the fourth floor, #437-439 (north end). If you need assistance with the elevator (inside Door #2) call Suzi at 585-233-5645.

Statement

Following is our agenda:

We could encourage anyone who can't come to email their thoughts on the topics.  Some of the topics are mentioned here only to indicate where we are headed and will not have time spent on them Saturday in discussion so that we may keep the meeting to a reasonable length. 

- Reasons/benefits of a pastel society (briefly present)
- choice official name
-location of meetings (?Hungerford unless a different location better suits the orientation of a  specific meeting?)
-frequency of society meetings (officers and committee chairs may need to meet more  frequently particularly in these early stages)
-when to meet (Saturdays, evenings or alternating Saturdays and evenings)
-the four officers, we have two potential officers (Robin and Suzi)
    President-overseeing and facilitates the Society 
    Vice President- assists President, oversees meeting if to President is absent, oversees Exhibition committee
    Treasurer- sets up bank account, processes incoming and outgoing monies, manages membership committee
    Secretary- emails all notifications, updates call to artists opportunities, a focus of the communications
-Membership- dates of membership year (March 1-February 29), urge volunteering, in the future add signature status
-IAPS membership-benefits and fees, Robin and Suzi will process this membership
-Exhibition-annual juried exhibition 
-Facebook- Suzi
-Website- any one experienced with setting up a website?
-Logo- interest in designing one? Process to decide on an image?
-Not-for-Profit status (future requirement)

We will have membership forms available at the meeting and once the group name has been agreed upon we will get the form published via email, Facebook etc. Please plan to sign up at the meeting (if you like what you hear) ~ $35/yr.

Description: Learn the secrets of producing high key animal portraits just like the award-winning Curious Critters photo series. Understand the techniques, challenges, and purposes for photographing creatures against white backgrounds, and participate in a Curious Critters animal photo session with LIVE animals. Everyone will get a chance to photograph critters such as turtles, frogs, salamanders, birds, or other Curious Critters, learning lighting, posing, and post-processing. Sigma will provide loaner lenses in popular mounts.

Arts & Cultural Council Re-locates


The Arts & Cultural Council for Greater Rochester and Rochester Association of Performing Arts (RAPA) are delighted to announce that the Arts & Cultural Council will be moving this spring into its new home at the Kodak Center for Performing Arts at Eastman Business Park on West Ridge Road, Rochester NY. The council’s new headquarters will include a gallery as well as offices and meeting space. The move is expected to be completed this April.

“We are very excited to welcome the Arts & Cultural Council,” said Jim Vollertsen, RAPA CEO and President. “We are looking forward to the executive committees of both our organizations working together on partnership opportunities.”

Arts & Cultural Council Board Chair Grace Tillinghast added, “The Arts & Cultural Council is thrilled with this opportunity, not only for the council’s new home, but also to be part of what promises to be the premier performing arts facility in Western New York.”
