from Donna Marbach - book cover art wanted

Dear Artists,

This is  a quick note to let you know that my small press Palettes & Quills is currently seeking cover art for a soon-to-be published poetry chapbook.  We are paying $50.00 plus 5 copies of the chapbook for the reproduction rights of a painting, drawing, or photograph  in conjunction with publication of this book. The selected artist will also be credited in the book and in publicity for the book.

Since  this art is going to be cover art for a approximately 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" book, keep in mind that it must reproduce clearly at that size without losing too much detail.  (We will ultimately need a high resolution copy from you, though submissions can be at lower resolutions) Also, note that vertical rather than horizontal orientations tend to work better as a cover.  We will look at submissions that are both in color and in black-and-white, though at the moment our preference is for color.  Details from larger pieces are certainly acceptable.  If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to email me.

The chapbook, entitled If Tigers Do Not Come, is a collection of contemporary free-verse poems on a variety of topics.

If you are interested in seeing a DRAFT  copy of the book, one can be emailed to you, but please remember that it is an uncorrected and incomplete copy of the final book.  We will accept submissions as electronic JPG attachments to the email: palettesnquills@gmail.com
(Please do not ask that we visit your websites.  While we may like your style or some of your work, we would rather have specific submissions.)  No originals please.  You may email CD's with JPG copies to the address below, but none will be returned.

Thank you for considering us and feel free to publicize this in your art groups or pass the information on to others who might be interested.

Recycled Orchestra

In Coleura, Paraguay, the residents of a slum community built on a landfill earn their living by recycling and selling items found in the landfill.  They also use the found materials to make musical instruments, as in the violin shown here, for the Recycled Orchestra in which their young people perform.

The young performers and their orchestra will be featured in an upcoming documentary, Landfill Harmonic. You can see a preview here:
