Your opinion needed

Hello all! I can not make it to the meeting this week and would like some feedback on a new piece I shot intended for the city hall show before i send it to be printed. The photo is as seen, 4 pictures together comparing different tree barks, all down Park Ave. Does it make the cut compared to my other work? Does it make sense and flow? Do you even like it? Haha, I do but that doesn't mean it's good enough! I would love to hear everyone's crit on this, colettegimour@gmail.com
Thanks- Colette

From Ted Rosen

Dear fellow members,

My San Francisco painting in our show at Barnes & Noble has been sold.
By the way, four of my miniatures came back from a show in Mobile, Ala. All were accepted, but none sold. What had me especially annoyed was that no exhibition catalogue or list of winners was enclosed. Just four paintings in bubble wrap.

Why We Need the Arts

From Robin Dettman:

This is a must watch segment by Kevin Spacey on why we need the arts. Please pass it on. Just maybe some of those who are trying to cut off all funding for the Arts will finally get the message.

"In India, the arts do not form the cherry on the cake; they form the yeast. It is only in the last hundred years that we, in copying the West, have shifted arts from this integral role in society to being entertainment – and, therefore, frivolous; therefore, extracurricular in school, rather than part of the curriculum; and extracurricular in life, rather than the core of it."

Tempest plays in Rochester

Thursday April 14th, 8pm
Lovin' Cup Brews & Bistro

300 Park Point Drive
Off Jefferson Rd near RIT

Since forming in 1988, Tempest has delivered a globally-renowned hybrid of high-energy folk rock fusing Irish reels, Scottish ballads, Norwegian influences and other world music elements. The last 22 years have seen the San Francisco Bay Area based act release twelve critically acclaimed CDs and play more than 2,000 gigs. It's also enjoyed an evolving line-up that's enabled its musicianship and creativity to rise with each new member-something highlighted by the group's current roster.

Hailing from Oslo, Norway, founding member and lead singer/electric mandolinist, Lief Sorbye, is recognized as a driving force in the modern folk-rock movement. Fiddler Michael Mullen, a favorite with the fans, is the original fiddler for the group. Bassist Damien Gonzalez, a native Californian, is also an accomplished drummer and didgeridoo player. Native of Devon, England, and a former member of the UK's folk-rock band Equation, guitarist James Crocker combines a deep-rooted British folk sensibility with a life-long rock experience. Cuban-born drummer Adolfo Lazo, an original Tempest member, colors the band's sound with inventive percussion.

Signed to WEA-distributed Magna Carta Records, Tempest's releases are acclaimed worldwide. The group's latest studio CD Another Dawn finds the band in peak form as it showcases inventive original and traditional material.

Tempest is regularly featured at prestigious festivals including The Philadelphia Folk Festival, Denmark's Skagen Festival, Britain's Cropredy Festival and The Winnipeg Folk Festival in Canada. The band is also a mainstay at countless American Celtic festivals. Tempest also hosts an annual festival of their own, called Karfluki Fest, in Northern California.
