Hochstein Summer Activities




Our summer concert series is in full swing - hope you can join us for one of the six concerts coming up! Click on "Hochstein at High Falls" for a schedule, and see photos and video from past concerts on our YouTube and Flickr channels.
 
It's not too late to join in our summer lessons, classes, workshops, and camps.  Hochstein is alive with music and dance all day and every week of our six-week program, and  summer is a great time to try something new, keep your skills up, and have fun with others in our array of programs.  We'd love to have you with us!

Announcement
I am proud to announce that the above photograph, Untitled, from the Series, Immersed in Living Water, was chosen as a winning photograph in this year's American Photography 28.

From approximately 8,000 pictures submitted by over 1,200 photographers, magazines, agencies, publishers and schools, our jury Selected, by a majority vote or better, 324 images to appear in the book and represent the best pictures from 2011. Another 129 were then Chosen with at least two votes to appear on our website.
 
This year’s distinguished jury included Bill Black, Reader's Digest; Scott Hall, Newsweek/Daily Beast; Nathalie Kirsheh, Details; Whitney Lawson, Travel + Leisure; Joanna Milter, The New York Times Magazine; Paul Moakley, TIME; and Zana Woods, Wired; with Kathy Ryan and Fred Woodward serving again as co-Chair Emeriti.

Steve Johnson BookStephen Johnson will be our honored guest during a special reception at Image City Photography Gallery on Wednesday evening, June 13, 2012. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. Visit with us and meet one of the most accomplished and best known professional photographers in the country. Steve is a Canon Explorer of Light, a member of the Photoshop Hall of Fame, the author of five books on photography, an educator, consultant, and just one of the most interesting people you'll ever meet.

A pioneer in the use and advancement of digital photography, Steve began photographing with a Dicomed Digital Camera Insert in 1994. He has taught photography at the college level since 1979, and for Kodak's original Center for Creative Imaging in Camden Maine during the early 1990's. He has taught numerous workshops for industry, designed digital photography programs, and has an ongoing photography, publishing and consulting business in Pacifica, California, where he teaches photography and printing, and displays his photographs in Stephen Johnson Photography Studios, Galleries and Education Center at the Pacifica Center for the Arts.Steve Johnson Landscape

Penfield Art Association


2012 Spring Show Opens June 11

PAA members are gearing up for the one-week Spring Show, which takes place June 11 – 17 at the Penfield Community Center, 1985 Baird Road, Penfield, N.Y.
Last year, 63 members presented 167 paintings, and this year’s show should offer a similar array of works in all media.

The opening reception and awards ceremony will take place 7 – 9 p.m. Monday, June 11

The show can be viewed 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday – Thursday (June 11 – June 14); 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Friday (June 15); 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday (June 16); 2 – 3 p.m. Sunday (June 17). Show members are on hand at all times to answer questions about the art, much of which will be available for purchase.

International Photographer Manuel Rivera-Ortiz traveled India from Pushkar to Calcutta, Mumbai to Ahmedabad, between 2003 and 2010. The images represented in this exhibition are a comprehensive cumulative story about the people of India—their lives, culture, daily routines and poverty in this overwhelming Southeast Asian subcontinent. The black and white photographs on exhibit are a highlight of a much larger set destined for Rivera-Ortiz’s next book project entitled, Manuel Rivera-Ortiz: India, A Celebration of Life. The exhibit is scheduled to travel to Berne, Switzerland; Zurich, Switzerland; and Milano, Italy.
